McKinney: Can't all Republicans just get along?

According to Fairfield's State Sen. John McKinney, Republicans will lose if they continue to fight among themselves.
He also took the chance to slap Linda McMahon on the wrist.
“Linda McMahon’s misleading negative attacks on Congressman Shays need to stop,"  McKinney said in a release. The statement was made "in reference to a string of negative press releases and attacks by the McMahon campaign."

In response McMahon's communications director, Eris Isaac, sent the following:
Congressman Shays is running on his record and we reserve the right to highlight parts of his record, including voting to raise the debt limit eight times, voting against billions in tax cuts for the middle class, cosponsoring cap and trade, and suggesting gas tax hikes at several points in his career.
Here's what McKinney said:
“Republicans launching misleading negative attacks against fellow Republicans may have cost our party the governor’s office in 2010 and most certainly hurt Linda McMahon’s chances at defeating Richard Blumenthal. This year, negative campaigning in the presidential primary has provided President Obama with ammunition he will use against Governor Romney in the general election.Republicans cannot repeat these mistakes if we hope to win the U.S. Senate election this fall.“While Linda McMahon has proven she can launch a hard-hitting negative attack against a fellow Republican, she has yet to prove she can win a majority of votes in a general election. That needs to be the focus of all candidates running for the United States Senate — issues, experience and vision; not negative attack ads.”

Interesting Rep McKinney. Now you are coming out saying "Republicans STOP negative campaigning" WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN up to now?

Chris Shays has been consistently negative.

At least Linda always has the facts.

Thank you Mr. McKinney.....as a life long Republican, I find it disgraceful that Ms. McMahon is attempting to distort Congressman Shays' long and distinguished record of public service. This is a crucial election and we have in Congressman Shays, a candidate with the knowledge, experience and integrity to be our next senator.

Pleease!!! The Shays campaign operative Joe Visconti has been making insane videos, totally false claims about McMAhon for months and when confronted, Shays believes in free speech and is turning a blind eye to visconti. Absolutely shameful. At least McMahon puts her name on anything that comes from her campaign. Shays is a wussy.

Before you defend C. Shay, you need to look at his voting record. You can't elect the same people and expect different results.

Wake people,CT needs a Govt that represents its people and NOT their party.

Fairfield's State Sen. John McKinney, has correctly identified a Republican problem of self destruction but fails to suggest a solution. The Republican Party has a strong conservative message that can and will attract voters from small towns and large cities. The Republican Party offers unaffiliated voters and yes Democrats a message that will resonate to the U. S. Senate, a message of conservative spending, compassion and opportunity. The Republican Party must recognize it is not their message that is weak in our cities. It is not the message that alienates some women and unaffiliated voters it is the messenger. The Republican Party needs to fundamentally change the their thinking on how to select and qualify their candidates. The challenge for Republicans is to broaden the voting base of support into our cities by selecting candidates that are viewed by unaffiliated voters as a voice of the people and not the voice of political insiders. The success of the Republican Party will depend on the messenger and their ability to broaden support by relating better to a wider base of voters in Connecticut. There are other Republican candidates running for the U. S. Senate that should be given more consideration than just Mrs. McMahon and Mr. Shays. Before the Party takes the easy path down the road of self destruction by endorsing the wrong messenger it should give serious consideration to the road less traveled. The climb to the mountain top is not easy but there is a new guide and messenger available and able if the Party is willing to walk the walk.

How ironic that the majority of comments illustrate exactly what Mr. McKinney was alluding to in his commentary. How very amusing to read that "Ms McMahon puts her name" on anything coming out of her campaign.....leaving one to speculate that, independent of any campaign, individuals take the time to spew out factually incorrect and derogatory statements .... Out of their concern for the state or the republic? Also interesting to note, that comments seemingly attributed to Congressman Shays' supporters are positive and do not resort to name calling.......very telling indeed.

The fact that Linda McMahon bussed in 50 Wesleyan students to skew the Middletown RTC straw poll in her favor, suggests that she's not exactly confident of being elected, based solely on her message. The Republicans will not take the Senate seat that way. We need a candidate with clear solutions, who can successfully communicate them to the voters. Having spent most of his life in CT's urban areas, Brian K. Hill is the candidate who is best able to deliver a common sense message to those areas, and peel off enough votes to put the GOP over the top

As for Shays, I'm tired of politicians with long records of public service. Our country is in serious trouble, and those are the clowns who got us into this mess. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result. We need to change our mindset about who represents us in DC if we expect to find our way out of this morass. It's time to send "real folks" to Washington. I support Brian K. Hill.

Republicans lost 2010 gubernatorial election because they nominated a stiff with problematic personal and professional backgrounds, not because his opponents truthfully talked about those flaws

How about contributing to the stoppage of negative attacks on fellow Republicans, whether they're candidates or citizens, by finally acknowledging this fellow Republican --> Mr. Brian K. Hill. It seems the State politicians & media are as content with ignoring Mr. Hill as they are the people of Connecticut. I looked at Mr. Hill's plans on how he will get this Country & the people of Connecticut back to work & prosperity, & the federal government back into its Constitutional perimeters, and Mr. Hill's plans are logical & attainable. Please stop ignoring a qualified man for the packaged & polished status quo.

JOHN MCKINNY ARE YOU KIDDING ME. IT'S RINO'S LIKE YOU AND SHAYS THAT HAVE GIVEN THE REPUBLCAN PARTY IN CT. A LIBERAL AND SOCIALISTIC NAME. THE BEST THING FOR CT POLITICS IS FOR BOTH OF YOU TO MOVE TO CA. OR BETTER YET TRY MOSCOW.
